8 1/2 : CANCER

CANCER. How would you define cancer? I bet even the sound of the word makes you scared.

To me it means a darkness that spreads pain and ultimately death. It does not discriminate age, or gender, or social status, or place of birth. It is death waiting in hiding and in silence until discovered. It is a deep hatred of the mind and the soul manifested in the body. Cancer has touched us all either personally or someone we know closely. Cancer, possibly, has brought us closer together in understanding and support as well.

Truth is we all carry the potential for developing a deadly form of cancer, as everyday our bodies battle and destroy millions of cancerous cells.

You got your yearly medical check-up, you healthily made it to 2013. GREAT! This means your body successfully battled cancerous cells for 365 days. Tomorrow is just another day, and let us hope your body will win yet another battle.

I was recently contacted by Melanie Bowen  who belongs to the Mesothelomia Cancer Alliance Blog. She is a warrior health advocate for natural health and cancer cure initiatives.

After one of her family members experienced a close encounter with cancer, she took it upon herself to deepen both her studies and her understanding of it and has now turned it into her Masters as well as part of her life mission to help others understand and seek recovery with what seems to be a holistic approach.

Today, she wants to share a very simple, straightforward article with everyone here at Transformation Journeys. I thank you Melanie for reaching out and sharing with us some of your work and remind us that health always comes first, and when health is not there, there are some people like yourself, that are here to help.

How Fitness Can Help You Battle Cancer

Living with cancer is one of the hardest things that a person could ever go through. Treatment can be painful, and there are no guarantees that you will be cured. Some people will have to face recurrences that can take a serious toll on the mind and body alike. It is not uncommon for cancer patients to experience bouts of depression during treatment. However, your mental state is a crucial part of the healing process. Maintaining a positive attitude can help to prevent cancer and even fight off pre-existing cancer cells.

Why Mood Is Important When Battling Cancer

Following a daily exercise routine can do wonders for your body and your mind. Staying physically healthy has an effect on whether or not your body will develop cancer, and it can also increase your mood. Fitness plays a part in the flow of bodily chemicals, such as endorphins. A steady flow of endorphins will help to maintain a healthy and positive mind, and increase relaxation.

Increasing Your Energy Levels

Physical activity has been proven to help reduce the risk of remission among people who already have cancer. Fitness is no cure, but it can have a major impact on the healing process. Physical activity will gradually increase your natural energy levels. Having more energy makes a fitness routine easier to maintain. Your energy level can also effect how your body reacts to cancer cells.

Exercising After Chemotherapy Will Rebuild Your T Cells

Chemotherapy is a common cancer treatment that can leave your body weak. Exercising after a chemotherapy treatment can help your immune system to deal with the negative side effects of such a serious event. This occurs because exercise helps to rebuild T cells in the body. A chemotherapy treatment will have devastating effects on the T cells that already exist naturally. These cells are largely responsible for fighting off all types of cancer, from breast cancer to mesothelioma. It is crucial that you attempt to improve your T cell count and the strength of these cells.

Cancer is no laughing matter. Dealing with cancer effectively requires more than what the doctors can offer. Fitness is always important for your well-being, but it is especially important when dealing with a major illness. Talk to your doctor about how you can help to prevent or treat cancer.
